Well apparently winter is here. Even though it isn't yet time for Thanksgiving, no one can deny that it's cold out and even the local weatherman is on snowflake watch. With this cold weather of course comes dry, flaky skin.
Now although I do have dry skin and it doesn't seem to make sense to exfoliate, exfoliation is actually key, especially during winter time. The dryer your skin is the higher chance you have of dead skin just sitting atop the surface, which in turn can clog your pores and make you break out. Not only does exfoliating help remove that dead skin, but it also keeps you skin from looking dull which is very common for everyone during the cold months.
Now of course it's not good to go for the roughest exfoliant out there, especially if your skin is dry and sensitive, but there are some awesome more gentle options that I have been using for quite a while that seem to do the trick!
I got the Clarisonic as a gift for Christmas two years ago, and I don't think there's been a single day where I haven't used it. It's customizable, so you can choose different kinds of brush heads depending on your skin type (sensitive, acne-prone, oily, etc.) and you can of course use any type of cleanser you like with it. I know the Clarisonic is pricey, but there are several on the market that are similar for less money. I love this device because it really deep cleans, getting the cleanser deep into my pores, and well as scrubs away dead skin cells.
Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser
Okay, I know this is pricey as well, but my skin honestly just loves it. A little goes a long way, especially in conjunction with the Clarisonic, and it does an amazing job of cleansing my skin and removing makeup in the most gentle way. I love it because it doesn't have any ingredients that irritate my skin in it, and it also removes all traces of makeup better than any general cleanser I've ever used. It's also very moisturizing, which obviously I love. This Purity Cleanser is the perfect marriage with the Clarisonic and I just can't fight this feeling!
Palmer's Skin Therapy Oil
Not going to lie, when I started typing about this product, I almost wrote an entire essay on why I love it so much... so stay tuned for that in a future blog post :) I will say though, I couldn't successfully exfoliate my face without this stuff. It keeps it hydrated and happy after ruffing it up a bit. This stuff is amazing for anyone in the winter months and I highly recommend it. Plus it's very inexpensive and can be found at any drugstore!
St. Ives Blackhead Clearing Green Tea Scrub
This is the BEST traditional exfoliating cleanser in the drugstore, hands down. It's extremely gentle yet effective. It not only exfoliates, but it also calms redness and contains salicylic acid to combat breakouts. I like to use this every other day in the mornings, because I feel like it helps a lot with brightening my skin up and I also have never had any bad reactions to it. Best part? It's under $5.
