Meet Chelsea from Jane of All! | KCFW F/W '15

March 17, 2015

This week I have a special post, a little interview with Chelsea Riane, the designer behind the lingerie & ready to wear line, Jane of All! Chelsea will be returning for her 5th consecutive fashion week show this Friday at Union Station. I got the chance to ask Chelsea a few questions about her upcoming collection in anticipation of the show:

MB - When did you start designing? What inspired you to become a designer?
CR- I was always a creative kid
who loved to play dress up, put on crazy outfits and sketch clothing at a very young age. I was gifted my first sewing machine when I was 10 years old and I have been designing ever since.
There was never another career that interested me. I was self-taught by the time I entered highschool and took sewing classes and before I graduated, I had my first fashion show. I decided to continue my education in design at Missouri State University, all the while creating collections for the first 4 seasons of Kansas City Fashion Week. Each line has been very different and experimental and I know that I have now found my niche.
What made you decide to apply as a designer for KCFW this season?
I went through a period of travelling and have been absent from the Kansas City fashion scene for a bit too long. It is due time that I come back and show again in my beloved city. In the past two years I have grown as a designer and found my niche in design. Previously, I have shown eclectic lines including everything from ready-to-wear womens wear and menswear to couture gowns under a namesake label, but now I am launching a cohesive brand of ready-to-wear, loungewear and lingerie coined Jane of All.

What's one word you would use to describe your clothing line?

Where do you draw your inspiration from when you design?
Street-wear, my surroundings, and my massive collection of magazine tear sheets.

What's your favorite thing about being a designer for KCFW?
I have loved being a part of Kansas City Fashion Week from the beginning when we showed at Harrah's and now on to the beautiful, historic Union Station. I have watched this city and our fashion community grow in so many ways. We have built a tight family of creatives who support, collaborate with and encourage each other.

What makes your latest collection or design aesthetic stand out?
This collection is an eclectic mix of 90's grunge, glam and current/futuristic street-wear. This collection is ready-to-wear for the everyday girl. It is completely different than any of my other collections.

Anything else we should know about your brand?
My brand is for the Jane of All trades. It consists of bold, graphic ready-to-wear paired with wardrobe basics and lingerie. F/W '15 Kansas City Fashion Week will be its debut. Soon after KCFW, all of the looks that you will see on the runway (and more) will be available in multiple sizes and fabrics both online and in boutiques.

Don't forget to check out the Jane of All collection this Friday at Kansas City Fashion Week! Doors open at 6:30 PM, show starts at 8 PM. See you there! :)
